It's been almost two years since I last wrote a now post in this corner of the web. Long story short, I got pre-occupied with a ton of work and got what I wanted out of those opportunities. Now, I'm starting to rethink everything again - my goals and systems and habits - because some changes are necessary.
CypressThis year, I decided to step down from a software engineering role after getting an opportunity that I just could not say no to. Yes, I got a call to move back into the software testing industry and I obliged, partly motivated by the chance to learn Cypress deeply in practice while I again build a suite of automated checks from scratch. Fast forwarding ten months, the test suite is up and running and is what enables me and the team to scale up our testing enough without burning out. Next steps? It's taking one step back and taking another look at probable gaps in our daily testing, and starting to address those. At the moment, we need better visual regression and low-version safari checks.
Back to Habit TrackingI let myself drown in a sea of work this 2022 and because of that I neglected personal care a bit. I'm now fixing that by easing back into tracking a few important daily habits - exercising, standing up, flossing, no phone in bed, sleeping by 11PM. Notion's default habit tracker helps. I hope to add in regular creative hobby time as well because I want to be doing more of that moving forward.
The Next 5 YearsI imagine the next five years to be both exciting and scary. I am at a crossroads now about several significant parts of my life. I'm planning ample changes up ahead so I can lead a better lifestyle. For a highly risk-averse person like me, this is definitely energy consuming in the beginning but vital so I'll just have to face the challenges head on and learn.
